I have been a Maine-based wedding planner for almost 10 years.

I have done the starfish-driftwood-moss-sand-river rocks-lobster bake-and every-other-nautical-theme-imaginable wedding many many times. They have all been unique and beautiful.

But this wedding was different.

This wedding was so far in the other direction that I could hardly contain my enthusiasm during the year of planning with the fabulously innovative bride and groom.

The setting was Maine, Marcy and Dan are originally from Maine …. but details such as etched acrylic menus and monochromatic industrial elements replaced all hints of the rocky Maine coast that we all know and love. They picked the things they liked and the styles they were drawn to without worrying about what anyone else might think. And it worked perfectly.

What were some of my favorite details from this day in June?

The way the couple branded everything as “Lakerson2012” – a combination of their last names.

The ceremony music. Dan and his groomsmen strolled down the aisle to “The Final Countdown” (Europe), and were then followed by the bridesmaids to the tune of “Just Like a Prayer” (Madonna). What about the Bride?… Marcy made her grand entrance to “Don’t Stop Believin” (Journey).

Oh. Did I fail to mention that all of these pieces of music were played by the most fabulous duet on a violin and a cello?

The taco truck that pulled in on wedding day to feed everyone lunch.

The bridesmaids’ dresses that were a custom textile created specifically for each custom designed dress. Wow.

The more than a hundred Edison light bulbs glowing against the sailcloth tent.

The curtain of vinyl records as the backdrop for the most awesome vinyl-spinning dj in the state.

The fact that the couple flipped a coin in the middle of their ceremony to determine who was going to read their vows first.

The striking fusion of raw slate and sleek acrylic.

The bride’s wonderful obsession with washi tape.

The eighty-seven amazingly different and stunning floral arrangements.

The fact that the bride and groom never forgot nor sacrificed the comfort of their guests.

So great. All of it.

Marcy and Dan’s wedding was as unique as the couple themselves.

Their creativity, sense of humor and obvious adoration for one another has defined their wedding as the highlight of my career as a planner and designer.

I will always hold Lakerson2012 near and dear.

Marcy and Dan are truly an inspiration. The pure joy and excitement on their faces when they saw each other for the first time on wedding day will be my permanent reminder as to why I do what I do. I am ever grateful. It was my extreme honor.

Cheers to many many more years, Marcy and Dan. May you always have a “shucking good time”.

“Style is the perfection of a point of view.” – Richard Eberhart

Sometimes great advice comes from the poets.

Other times, if you are lucky, the best advice comes directly from your father:

“Fashion and style are very different. Fashion is dictated. Style is exclusively yours. And while fashion is fleeting, style has passed the test of time.” – David Wood

And never is style so important than on your wedding day. Lookin’ good Andrew.
